Steve Jobs' Legacy

Steve Jobs. 1955 - 2011. The Apple brand is something that has probably featured in the lives of us all. Think about your day; how many times do you pick up your iPhone, shuffle a tune on your iPod or iTunes account or log onto your Mac? Chances are that you use at least one Apple product during your day, and this is all thanks to Steve Jobs, deemed a visionary in the field of technology.

So the world has a lot to thank Steve Jobs for, and it seems fitting that we pay our respects to someone who has changed the face of technology and the computer and gadget industry as we know it. Not only was he the founder of Apple, a brand that has become a household name, but he was a chief executive for Pixar, a company that brought the world great films like Toy Story and Monsters Inc, and a board director for Disney.

Barrack Obama paid his respects by saying “Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it. By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.”

It seems right to pay tribute to a man that has changed the face of technology for good; a man who has brought us products that have changed our lives and made our days easier and who has changed the face of the computer, the mobile phone and the mp3 player. Born in February 1955 in Palo Alto, California, Jobs is heralded as one of the figures who transformed part of California to become the centre of technology in America, as we see it today. He produced the first Apple computer in his garage with his friend Steve Wozniak, and was behind the accolade that Apple received this year, passing Mobil to become the most valuable company in the world, however short-lived this was. It is rumoured that he has set in place four years’ worth of work for the tecchies at Apple, with thoughts that the first iTV could be in the making over the next 12 months; another product to revolutionise our days and transform the way we use and process information.

"Three apples changed the world. The one that Eve ate, the one that fell on Newton’s head and the one that Steve built."
