Got Milk? Domain UDRP

Have you ever thought about the power of your domain name and the influence it has over the Internet? Would you go to UDRP to claim domains that were rightfully yours?

Got Milk? Is a brand that runs across America after being started by the state of California to encourage people to drink more milk. It initially started by giving three cents to the organisation for every carton of milk purchased, and has now become a country wide campaign winning awards for its advertising strategies at Cannes, and being backed by celebrities. The memorable ad campaigns are simple, showing a celebrity with a milk moustache and asking “got milk?” Rihanna is the latest global star to get the moustache treatment, with stars such as David Beckham and Jennifer Hudson advertising the brand in previous years.

So with such a fantastic decade behind them, it comes as no surprise that the Got Milk? brand are eager to protect their intellectual property, and use the UDRP process to reclaim anything that they feel is infringing on their brand. When the trademark was registered they ideally should have registered all extensions and back ordered domains that were owned by other parties to secure their brand.

They have recently filed UDRP claims against gotmilk.me and gotmilk .biz, having previously taken plenty of domain infringements back, including gotmilkband.com from a punk band who were forced to then change their name, not having realised that this was a trademark infringement. The band actually called themselves ‘Got Milk?’ and went as far as to use the font that the milk promoting brand use. Got Milk? has historically filed as many as twenty two domain disputes, many of them recorded over the past twelve months.
